Susan Woolgar

Susan Woolgar was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1955. She spent her childhood in Calgary, Alberta, and says that she has always felt a “need to paint.” She worked for various advertising firms in Calgary before pursuing her art education by studying at the Alberta College of Art, where she received a Diploma of Applied Arts - Visual Communications in 1977. After several years of freelancing, in 1982 she moved with her husband to Edson, Alberta, a small community with ready access to the natural environment, and it was there that Woolgar began to experiment with landscape painting.

In 1989, Woolgar and her family returned to Calgary, and she became involved in the arts community through the Alberta Society of Artists. In 1996, Woolgar took a teaching position with Red Deer College, in Red Deer, Alberta. She has also taught through community art groups throughout the province and for the City of Calgary and the City of Red Deer Cultural Services.

Susan Woolgar finds inspiration in natural environments, and uses acrylic, oil, pastel, and watercolour in her work, which she has been exhibiting since 1982.

Susan Woolgar continues to paint and teach in Red Deer, Alberta.
