Lorne Fineday

Lorne Fineday

Lorne Fineday was born in 1951 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Of Cree heritage, Fineday's interest in traditional legends and beliefs became important to his art practice when he began carving in 1988. His innate skills have been enhanced by contact with other artists, including Lloyd Pinay, with whom he took an ice and snow carving course in 1994.

Initially in soapstone and later in alabaster, Fineday has created works that have been exhibited in Canada and the United States. Fineday himself has done a significant amount of traveling throughout North America, and lived for a time in Colorado.
