Featuring Saskatchewan Artist(s): Brenda Pelkey
1991, 24 pages, 10 colour illustrations.
Published by Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina
The nineteen large-scale composite photographs comprising this series are the result of Pelkey's four-year study of Saskatoon neighbourhood backyards.
She chose the yards because they transgress the beige-neighbourhoods norms of North America middle-class suburbia. As indicated by the extravagant lighting and inclusion of the home-owners portraits, Pelkey's subject matter has demanded a significant re-examination of the photographic documentary tradition.
