Joanne Bristol
Joanne Bristol is a multidisciplinary artist who studied at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts, before going on to to earn a Master of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax.
Bristol has lived in Regina, Saskatchewan, Banff, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. While in Regina, she taught art at the University of Regina.
Bristol is also a writer, and has published a ten-volume novelette, The Serial Fiction of Margaret Rind. Her online writing projects include bentaerial.net, which has been supported by the Canada Council, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
Bristol's installations, performances, and videos have been exhibited across Canada. Bristol, often in collaboration with other artists, creates works that challenge how viewers think about science, knowledge, and nature. As she explains, “My art practice is invested in understanding relationships between nature and culture, and between art, science and history.”
In 2006, Bristol was a guest performance art curator at The Western Front in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Bristol is currently pursuing a PhD at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London.
