Black History Month Art Auction - Call for Consignments
Saskatchewan Network for Art Collecting will host an online Black History Month Art Auction, running from February 1st to 25th, 2024. Its purpose is twofold: to highlight the work of Black artists and celebrate Black subjects, and to raise funds for two Black-focused charities.
Consignments are invited for the auction’s two sections:
Consigned — artworks being sold on behalf of consignors (art collectors, artists and businesses) with at least 80% of the winning bid going to the consignor. All of these artworks must be by Black artists or depict Black experiences.
For Charity — artworks being sold with a portion of revenues going to our charity partners, the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum (SACHM) and the Black Excellence Scholarship at Sage Hill Writing. For these artworks, 60% of the winning bid will be split by the charities and 40% will go to the consignor/artist. If the artwork donor prefers, a higher percentage of the winning bid (up to 100%) will be paid to the charities. These artworks do not need to be by Black artists or feature Black subjects — all mediums, styles and subjects are welcome.
About SACHM - The Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum aims to research, preserve and celebrate the history and contributions of people of African ancestry in Saskatchewan. It is dedicated to helping people of African descent preserve and gain access to their history, appreciate their heritage and recognize the contributions that individuals of African ancestry have made in Saskatchewan. https://sachm.org/
About the Black Excellence Scholarship - This scholarship at Sage Hill Writing aims to make these Saskatchewan literary workshops accessible to writers who would not otherwise be able to attend. It is open to writers interested in taking adult courses who require financial assistance and self-identify as being Black, African, or of Caribbean heritage. sagehillwriting.ca
