SCYAP Art Gallery
The gallery of Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming (SCYAP) is dedicated to providing an exhibition space for emerging artists while promoting equal opportunity and diversity. For some artists, the opportunity to book at show at the SCYAP Gallery means getting their first show or exhibit in a formal gallery setting. Visual art in any medium is accepted. The SCYAP Gallery runs frequent youth art shows and exhibitions as well as national youth-centric exhibitions such as Kandahar Through Afghan Eyes (December 2010).
The SCYAP’s own programs also produce work to be exhibited; for example, the gallery recently hosted two exhibits showcasing the work of participants of the Urban Canvas Project, an employment readiness, arts training program for youth at risk. The SCYAP Gallery frequently collaborates with other partners in hosting unique exhibits and events; recent and upcoming collaborations include those with the University of Saskatchewan and the Oskayak School Board of Education.
The SCYAP Gallery also provides a central downtown location for community-based events, including art and literacy workshops, university or high school art lectures, photographic displays, youth dance workshops, and film screenings.
Hours: Monday – Friday 10:30am-6:00pm; Additional viewing-only access is available on Tuesday, Thursday 6pm – 9 and Saturday.
