Rachel Barkaie

Rachel Barkaie was born in 1948 in Petah Tikva, Israel. A self-taught artist, Barkaie began as a writer and published two books of poetry as well as children's short stories before finding a passion for oil painting and a love for colours.

In addition to oils, Barkaie works with coloured chalk, pastels, and acrylics. Her work is greatly influenced by her environment. As Barkaie comments, “My works change in respect to where I have been and visited, and according to the atmosphere, to the landscape that surrounds me. I love to use vivid colours to emphasize the subject, the mood, and the pleasure of creation.” Barkaie has exhibited in Israel and Canada, and her work has appeared in publications including on the cover of Transition (Spring 2009).

Barkaie’s recent works include experiments with miniatures and acrylic painted greeting cards.

Rachel Barkaie lives in Moose Jaw.
