Saskatchewan Artist

Nancy Wirtz
Nancy Wirtz was born in 1953 Radville, Saskatchewan. Wirtz is primarily a self-taught artist, though from 1981 to 1989, she participated in the Pense Community Artists annual art show and classes in Pense, Saskatchewan. She herself has instructed adults in mixed media art classes (2005-2007).
Wirtz's work is sculptural and textile-based; she is inclined to explore and to incorporate many materials and techniques into her works. From 1986 to 1996, Wirtz was involved with the Pense Fashion Show, contributing to set and decoration design, fabrication, and publicity. After reading Creative Cloth Doll Faces (Patti Medaris Culea), Wirtz discovered that making art dolls was an ideal practice: “It allowed me to incorporate all of my varied interests; sewing, painting, papier-mâché, polymer clay, beading, knitting, and wood working—the possibilities are endless.”
Nancy Wirtz is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council. She resides in Regina, Saskatchewan.
