Leslie Potter

Leslie Potter was born in 1947 in Kimberley, British Columbia, but grew up on a farm near Biggar, Saskatchewan. Potter taught art part-time in Saskatoon's public schools (1978-1985), before receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in 1986, studying with Bill Epp. Potter later taught painting for the University of Saskatchewan's Department of Extension and Community Relations (1990), and sculpture for Saskatoon Catholic Schools. He went on to receive his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993.

Potter has been exhibiting his work since the early 1970s in solo and group exhibitions. Commissions he has received include those from the University of Saskatchewan, the City of Saskatoon, Prince Albert Arts Centre, and the Town of Outlook, among others. Of his work, Potter says, “My pieces have a meditative quality, rooted in formalism and project a lyrical, fresh approach in the world of abstract sculpture. I offer sculpture that is permanent, authentic and contemplative.”

Potter's work is represented in the collections of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, City of Prince Albert, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (Regina), City of Saskatoon, and the University of Saskatchewan.

Potter lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In 2010, Potter and his wife, artist Alicia Popoff, launched a joint traveling exhibition called “Third Sound.”
